Split - Home to Diocletian's Palace, built for the Roman emperor, the city was founded as the Greek colony of Aspálathos in the 3rd or 2nd century BC. Sinj and Cetinska Krajina represent an interesting tourist area, and the major attraction is certainly the traditional Tilters Tournament of Sinj (Sinjska alka). It takes place every year on the first Sunday in August to commemorate the victory over the Turkish army in 1715. The Alkar courtyard with the Sinjska Alka Museum is located in one of the rarely preserved Venetian quartz (Cavalry Caverns).
